Eretica is born from the desire to inhabit the sabbath

Eretica is an independent cultural organisation that engages with the present while drawing on deep historical roots.

We began with the figure of the witch, a powerful archetype that continually reveals the boundaries of women’s roles, gender expectations, and the contours of social norms. An archetype that endures as a form of oppression, but also as a possibility for resistance and subversion.

The witch hunts tell us a great deal about the fault lines along which modernity was built. Starting from this history, we can ask what it means to be a witch today, what forms of magic we can put into practice, and how the witch’s gaze might help us question the boundaries between the inside and outside of bodies, between the natural and the artificial, between humans and the environment.

This is not about uncritically reclaiming a supposed archaic wisdom, but about questioning forms of knowledge and how they are transmitted, the hierarchies produced by the codification of knowledge, and the thresholds that determine access to it.

In this sense, the witch’s gaze makes it possible to cross boundaries, challenge supposed biological truths, and shed light on colonial processes. It does so from a marginal epistemic position that becomes central to understanding fractures and structures of oppression.

Eretica seeks to put this kind of knowledge into practice by weaving together and blending different disciplines, techniques, traditions, and genealogies. Our aim is not so much to study witchcraft as to look at the world through a witch’s eyes, in order to re-enchant it.

Eretica envisions festivals, gatherings, writing, and a multiplicity of other forms through which to create spaces that, like the sabbath, become tools for transforming the roles imposed upon us.
